About Charles Kohler
Charles Kohler is a full-time labor arbitrator with more than two decades of experience resolving disputes in both the private and public sectors. He has issued over 800 labor arbitration awards and is recognized for his deep expertise in labor and employment law.
Raised in the Toledo, Ohio area, Charles was influenced early on by his father, a real estate broker, and his mother, a registered nurse. He earned his undergraduate degree in finance from The Ohio State University and remains a devoted fan of the Buckeyes football team. He received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law, where his interest in labor arbitration was sparked by a professor who was a prominent arbitrator.
After passing both the Ohio and Florida bar exams, Charles began his legal career adjudicating appeals under the Ohio Unemployment Compensation Law. He later entered private practice, specializing in labor and employment law, and served as a mediator for the Ohio Tenth District Court of Appeals. He continued this work as Director of Administrative Practice at Clemans, Nelson & Associates, a firm representing approximately 400 employers in all aspects of labor and employment law.
Charles began his career as a labor arbitrator in 1992. His accomplishments in the field were recognized with his invitation to join the National Academy of Arbitrators in 2002. In 2023, he was selected as a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
